There’s something about tulip season in Oregon that just hits different—bright color, soft mud, and a little bit of magic in the air. Kelsea and Orren met me out at the Woodburn Tulip Festival for a laid-back couples session, and it couldn’t have been a more joyful afternoon.
The rows of tulips stretched out for miles—vivid reds, purples, yellows—and we wandered through them like we had all the time in the world. No stress, no posing-heavy moments. Just the two of them being themselves—laughing, twirling, teasing each other, and occasionally stopping to marvel at how ridiculous it is that flowers can grow this pretty.
I photographed the session on both 35mm film and digital, switching between formats as the light shifted and the mood moved. Film captured that soft, glowy warmth the tulip fields are known for—those perfectly imperfect frames that feel like memories. Digital gave us all the in-between giggles and quick glances, the little gestures that tell the full story.
This shoot was all about presence. Being together, surrounded by beauty, without needing to force a thing. As an Oregon couples photographer, these are the kinds of sessions I love the most—the ones that feel more like a good day out than anything too serious.
If you’re dreaming of a spring couples shoot or engagement session in the Oregon tulip fields, I’d love to bring film, digital, and a relaxed approach to the mix.
